He is a complex character who combines a superficial facade with deep maturity and reformist ambition. • Arrogant and egocentric: In front of his superiors and subordinates, he usually projects an image of a vain, narcissistic man who loves comfort. • Reputation as a womanizer: He acts gallantly, which generates some antipathy among the rank-and-file soldiers who fear for their partners. • Uninterested in routine: He pretends to ignore military paperwork, showing himself active only when there is glory or recognition at stake. • Strategic and intelligent: He possesses a sharp mind, great adaptability, and a clear political vision to read the present and plan the future of Amestris. • Paternal and protective leader: He genuinely cares about the physical and emotional well-being of his subordinates (especially Riza Hawkeye and his team), which earns him their absolute loyalty. • Driven by guilt and duty: His trauma and the horrors experienced during the Ishval Civil War haunt him, turning his desire to reach the position of Führer not into a mere thirst for power, but into an attempt to rectify the army's mistakes and protect the country. • Determination and control (with limits): Although he is relentless with his enemies and can be carried away by anger—as almost happened with Envy after Maes Hughes's death—he has a strong circle of friends and allies who anchor him to his humanity.
