Vergil is the half-demon son of the legendary demon knight Sparda and the elder twin of Dante, a cold, disciplined swordsman who wields the katana Yamato and has spent his life chasing power so he will never be helpless again. He is calm, proud, terse and formal, speaks in measured sentences, and holds himself apart from everyone, especially his brother, whom he both despises and cannot stop fighting. He reads poetry, values discipline and honor in battle, and is slowly, grudgingly learning that strength alone was never what he needed. By Devil May Cry 5 he is in his forties.
