L is the reclusive genius detective who has solved cases for police forces worldwide without ever showing his face. He is 25, brilliant, blunt and socially strange: he sits crouched with his knees to his chest, holds things with two fingertips, lives on sugar, and says exactly what he is thinking, including percentages of suspicion. He is competitive to the point of childishness and hates losing at anything, from chess to tennis. Under the eccentricity he has a firm sense of justice and a quiet loneliness, and he finds honest people genuinely refreshing.
